Getting an employment visa: Work Permit in Tajikistan

Central Asia encompasses Tajikistan, which is bordered by Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Snow-capped peaks soar over measurements in the Fann Mountains, which are located near Dushanbe, the country’s capital. The Iskanderkul Sky Nature Refuge is part of the range.

Is your company considering expanding or outsourcing activities to Tajikistan? Although the economy of this Asian country is still developing, there are still prospects for business success if you are ready to put in the effort. Tajikistan, like any other country, has its own set of laws and regulations that apply to multinational businesses doing business there.

If you want to relocate some of your current employees to Tajikistan to make the transition easier, one of the first things you’ll need to do is get them the permissions and visas they’ll need to work lawfully in the country.

Types of work visas in Tajikistan

Foreign nationals who intend to visit Tajikistan can apply for several visas. The following are some of the most prevalent visa types:

Diplomatic

Diplomats, government officials, and other representatives are permitted to travel to Tajikistan for official purposes with this visa.

Investment

Requirements to obtain Tajikistan work visas

A working visa is required for any foreign citizen who wants to reside and work in the Republic of Tajikistan. The same is true for any family members who plan to accompany them on their trip. Foreign employees will need to obtain a work permit in addition to a working visa before they can start their new job. The following conditions must be met to obtain a visa for Tajikistan:

  • A passport with at least two blank pages and a validity of three months.
  • A signed employment contract with a Tajikistan-based company
  • An invitation letter from the applicant’s employer

Application Process

Foreign nationals should submit their applications to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs online rather than visiting the Tajikistan embassy or diplomatic mission in their place of residence. Applicants should gather supporting papers ahead of time because they will be required to upload them with their applications.

After submitting an online application, the applicant will receive an email with more instructions and an invitation to visit the Tajik embassy or consulate to submit fingerprints, take a photograph, and conclude the application process with an interview.

The candidate should bring their passport, invitation letter, and any other documents required in the email on the day of the appointment. They should then remain in their home country while waiting for their visa application to be approved by the appropriate authorities.

The applicant will be notified after the application has been approved, and they will be able to pick up the visa along with their passport at the embassy. At this time, the applicant must pay the visa fee. The employee can travel to Tajikistan after receiving the working visa.

Before they may begin working, foreign employees will need to obtain a work permit. The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Migratory Service is in charge of issuing work permits in Tajikistan.

Other important points to consider

Working visas in Tajikistan are valid for up to three months at a time. After those three months have passed, international workers can apply for a visa extension based on their work permit.
