Things to see in Hong Kong

Hong Kong has an energy that is not easy to describe to a person that has never been there. The small amount of space available and the sheer amount of people wanting to visit and live in this city makes it one of the worldโ€™s busiest cities. Imagine millions of people hustling in a city center where everything seems to function flawlessly. Every corner is filled with something unique, whether itโ€™s a shop selling luxury furniture, a street artist, or an ancient temple.

But visiting Hong Kong is not restricted to only the city itself. If you look a little further from the city, you will find beautiful mountains, beaches, islands, and even traditional fishing villages. Letโ€™s see what places one should visit to get the most out of traveling to Hong Kong.

Star Ferry

Hong Kongโ€™s Star Ferry is renown worldwide. It offers a ride through Victoria Harbor since 1880 and it costs only a few dollars, making it a tourist attraction that you must visit. Its main routes will take you between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. There are two of the routes you can choose from. If you choose to travel from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central, then it is almost guaranteed that the dense skyscrapers will make you feel small.

The return trip for the same route is just as impressive. If you travel back in the evening, then you might even catch the full beauty of โ€œA Symphony of Lightsโ€ show. The show illuminates the Hong Kong city and will make you feel more alive than ever.

Hong Kong skyline

Hong Kongโ€™s skyline is one of the most impressive ones around the world. The sheer amount of buildings stretching upwards on both sides of the harbor are beautiful on their own already. Just imagine the surrounding mountains and harbor that sets the island of Hong Kong and Kowloon apart.

In the harbor, you will see many traditional red-colored Chinese boats. Along with the historic Star Ferry, the boats contrast highly with the background of high-rise buildings.

At night, the scenery gets completely different. As the sky darkens the city becomes a light show itself. It looks like a completely different place. If you want to visit the place where you will get the best view of all of this, you must go to the top of Victoria Peak or to the Kowloon waterfront.

Victoria Peak

One of the best places to visit in Hong Kong is Victoria Peak. From here, you will be able to fully take in the spectacular skyline of the city. You can visit the top of the peak by riding a tram and enjoy the view of the city, harbor, and surrounding islands.

Most part of the peak is covered with lush greenery, nature trails, and other places with a beautiful view of the city. If you wish to walk a trail, then a walk back to the city might be a good idea. If you happen to visit this place at night, you will get one of the most beautiful views over the city.

Big Buddha

The 34-meter high statue called โ€œBig Buddhaโ€ is one of the most impressive places to visit in Hong Kong. It is located above Lantau islandโ€™s Po Lin monastery. The statue itself was built in 1993 and it took 12 years to complete it. This should give you an idea of how impressive tourism attraction is.

It is one of the largest Buddha statues of its kind in the world. The surroundings of this statue are also worthy of seeing. The green forest overlooking the ocean and islands will let everybody feel welcome.

Wong Tai Sin temple

This temple is one of the newest and most interesting ones in Hong Kong. Located in Kowloon, the original temple was built in 1920 as a private structure. It was rebuilt in 1968 and this is now the temple that tourists get to visit. The temple was built in the honor of the Taoist god Wong Tai Sin. Locals say that this god brings luck in horse-racing and heals illnesses. Visit this temple to see the awe-inspiring complex of several buildings.

Temple street night market

This place is another must-see destination for tourists in Hong Kong. This is a place where you will be able to taste a variety of foods, find local craftsmanship, and almost everything else you expect to see in a chaotic market. The market starts to liven up around 6 pm. When late evening comes, this place is completely turned and offers its visitors a wide range of interesting things and people to see.
