The national visa to Germany

A standard D-visa is valid for 3-6 months. The term may change if it is known in advance that the total time spent in Germany will not exceed 1 year.

Required documents in obtaining the national visa

The list of documents directly depends on the purpose of the visit to Germany in 2021. Documents are divided into 2 types: basic and additional. Basic documents are required for absolutely all applicants. Additional documents are collected and served based on a specific purpose.

So, the main package of documents includes:

  • Completed visa application form with signatures;
  • Foreign passport in original (expiration date – not less than 90 days after leaving Germany);
  • Two-color photographs 3.5 × 4.5 cm;
  • Copy of your passport;
  • Tickets (or booking tickets) for any type of transport, indicating the date of return, as well as booking a hotel or private place of residence with dates;
  • Medical insurance (minimum coverage amount – from 30,000 €);
  • Receipt for full payment of the consular fee;
  • Documents confirming the financial viability of the applicant: certificate of employment (if any), bank statement, sponsorship letter from a person willing to pay for the trip.

Terms of obtaining the national visa

The submitted applications can be considered from 2 weeks to 6 months. The speed of consideration is influenced by:

  • Reasons for the trip;
  • Checking a vacancy for the work purpose of the trip;
  • Checking the diploma for compliance with German standards;
  • The embassy in the home country of the immigrant can send a request to Germany, where the decision will be made by the competent authorities.

Cost of the national visa to Germany

The standard consular fee is 75 euros; children receive a 50% discount. Some categories of migrants are exempted from paying the fee (grant holders, children, and spouses of German citizens). The exact amount of the fee to foreigners is announced at the German embassy on the day of submission of documents.
