Costa Rica allows foreign nationals who are ‘dentists’ to get a temporary residency visa in the country. Which is the category for those who are planning to immigrate to the country and have a regular monthly income of at least US$2,500 from a guaranteed source for two years. Typically, this condition is satisfied by making a bank deposit of US$60,000 at a local bank and also by getting a commitment letter which guarantees that at least US$2,500 per month will be provided. This amount incorporates dependents (spouses and children below 25 years of age or older with disabilities). But for more dependents, a higher amount is needed. The permit is valid for 2 years and may be renewed if you still meet the requirements, i.e., make another deposit or prove a source of income. For renewals, it is necessary to prove that the income has been received in this nation and you have lived in the country at least 4 months per year either continuously or discontinuously.

The Visa holders may either set up their own company or work independently, but they are not allowed to be employed. After you have legally lived in Costa Rica for 3 or more years with any temporary residence permit, you will be eligible for permanent residence.

It is the personal decision of the person and does not include dependents. The permanent residency is required to be renewed every 5 years.
Foreigners who are related as first-degree relatives to a Costa Rican citizen, either a spouse or a child, may also apply for a permanent residence visa. Even if they do not meet the residency requirement. In seven years of living legally with a temporary or permanent residency visa, a foreigner may apply for citizenship by naturalization.
