Anyone who moves to Malta falls in love with the island’s magnificent natural beauty, architectural marvels, and the Mediterranean joie de vivre that permeates throughout everyday life. The financial services sector and the gaming business are only two of Malta’s many lucrative sectors that attract many. Diverse pastimes including diving, cultural events, and nightlife are also significant pulls.

Central visa unit (CVU)
The major immigration agency of the government, the CVU, is in charge of upholding both national visa requirements and the duties of the Schengen acquis. Visas are distributed jointly by Malta’s diplomatic offices overseas. With the aid of the Central Visa Unit, all applicants who have a valid and adequate reason to visit Maltese territory may get a visa.
Visa
A visa is a temporary permit that is applied to a passport as a sticker and permits the holder to enter or leave Malta. Third-country citizens with a visa must demonstrate their adherence to admission conditions before gaining entry. Border control retains the authority to deny or revoke entry, irrespective of visa possession. Possible reasons include insufficient financial support, false information during visa application, or an inability to clarify their stay in Malta.
Visa categories for Malta
Malta mostly issues two (2) distinct categories of visas:
Schengen short-term
Foreign nationals who want to travel inside the Schengen area are granted this form of travel pass, including Pakistanis. It may be a single-entry or multiple-entrance visa. It is issued for a stay of no more than 90 days, depending on the choices made by the authorities and other essential factors. However, if the applicant requires a delay due to unplanned circumstances while in Malta, he or she may request a visa extension from the Central Visa Unit.
D visa (national pass)
This kind of pass is granted following national legislation for more than 90 days but not more than 365 days.
Application
All applications must be made in writing and contain all the details asked on the application form. The Malta Embassy in Pakistan may help you with this. The applicant must sign the form and provide the following: a passport with at least 3 months validity, and a clear color passport-sized photo with a white background.
Processing of visa applications
Application reviews typically take seven to fifteen days. Under specific exceptional scenarios, the review period can be prolonged by 30 or 60 days. To guarantee timely handling, it’s recommended to apply for a visa something like 15 days before your trip. If you hold a multiple-entry Schengen short-stay visa with no less than a half year remaining legitimacy, you can apply for another one before the current one terminates.
Conditions for residency
Getting the paperwork you need to move to Malta is a rather easy procedure. Depending on your country of origin for emigration, you may apply for either ordinary residency or permanent residency. The amount of tax you pay is ultimately what distinguishes the two.
Ordinary residency
Ordinary Residence applies to those coming from the EU to Malta. A tax reduction from 0% to 35% of your gross pay is deducted to decide how much tax you owe in light of your income and conjugal status. Every five years, it may be renewed.
Permanent residency
Anyone may apply for permanent residency, regardless of where they come from. Citizens of Pakistan must apply for this. Each year, it may be renewed.
Malta global residency program
A new residency policy was introduced by the Maltese government in July 2013. This gives citizens of third nations, including Pakistanis, preferential tax treatment in Malta. To be eligible for this program, you must fulfill some conditions. This includes owning or renting a property in Malta or Gozo and paying the minimum monthly tax owed on foreign income received in Malta.
