Canada: job finding guide 2021

Find the job - Canada

So, you have a specialty, education, work experience outside of Canada, and you want to pursue a career in the same direction in Canada.

Finding a job in Canada is easy enough because the labor market in Canada is very developed and there is a shortage of labor in many sectors of the economy. This is why Canada opens its doors to immigrants in 2021.

Where can I find the information I need?

It is found in three places:

  • the library;
  • the Internet;
  • job centers. Naturally, the information will be in English.

There are several reference books in the libraries where you can find information about your profession. So, if you know the exact English name of your profession, then in this book you define its code, and then in the second book – National Occupational Classification, Occupational Description by the code you will find a detailed description of it.

If you do not know the exact English name of your profession, then refer directly to the second book, but here you will have to go a long way, moving from industry to profession, from profession to specialty, from specialty to position.

Organizations assisting immigrants

The addresses and phone numbers of these organizations can be found in the โ€œFinding Help in Your Communityโ€ immigrant guide. The Department of Immigration on its website lists organizations that assist immigrants in various aspects of life and settlement in Canada, including assistance in finding a job. In particular, many of them provide free classes on labor market research, CV writing according to North American standards, preparation for interviews, etc.

Some of them offer help in finding a job or volunteer position (i.e. you can gain experience in Canada, but you will not be paid to do so). Many public and private organizations help you find a job, but none of them can guarantee you a job. You should not neglect any of the sources of information about the job: relatives, acquaintances, advertisements in newspapers under the headings “Job offers” (“Help Wanted”), “Careers and profession” (“Careers”).

Canadian employment centers, community organizations, private agencies, and clubs. All of them can provide you with information that guides your searches in the right direction. These organizations will be able to offer your services to potential employers. But ultimately, only your steps will help you get a job. Feel free to tell others about your professional qualifications and say that you are actively looking for a job.

Service Canada Centers – job centers

In employment centers, you will find immediately what is in the library (each center has its library) and what is on the Internet (each center will offer you computers, the Internet, and fax). There you can also get professional advice from consultants, and the services provided by the job centers are free.

Confirmation of diploma

If you intend to continue your education in Canada, you may ask to confirm that your education is at the Canadian level. To do this, you must confirm or evaluate your diploma. You can see the addresses of organizations offering such services by province. Internet Addresses: Canadian Information Center for International Credentials.

Writing a resume

A resume is a very important document, without which it is impossible to start a job search. To begin this stage of the search, it is necessary again to collect the necessary information. Again, I suggest you use three sources: Libraries, Employment Resource Centers, and the Internet. Ask the librarian to show you the resume writing guides that are available in every library.

It is customary to send a resume with a cover letter. The rules for composing cover letters are available in similar sources, and it is advisable to use them. It should be borne in mind that a resume has nothing to do with your autobiography, and even with a work biography.

A resume is a specific document drawn up according to special rules, the purpose of which is to convince the employer that you are fully suitable for the position that he published in his ad.

Where to send your resume?

Resumes are sent to target addresses. There are the following directions of its distribution:

  • at the addresses indicated in the ads;
  • by the addresses of the companies you are interested in (Hidden Job Market);
  • in resume-banks;
  • to intermediary offices.
