Albania: about the education

All universities in the country are supported by the state. The Albanian government is interested in attracting foreign students. Studying at universities takes place on a budgetary and commercial basis. Universities of Albania offer applicants to study in bachelor’s and master’s programs. To be admitted to a university, you must pass entrance exams.

The highest priority for students is specialties related to economics and foreign languages. Recently, teaching has been a promising profession since the state is interested in improving the level of education in the country. The most costly for applicants will be areas related to medicine and economics.

Education system

The training and vocational education system in Albania include two main areas:

  • Initial professional education, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science;
  • Continuing professional education in Albania and training. It is subordinate to the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, and Equal Opportunities.

 

At the moment, the share of the primary vocational education and training sector in Albania, existing in the secondary education system of Albania, is only 11%, and together with socio-cultural educational institutions (schools and colleges) within this system is about 17%. The bulk of students in the secondary education system (83%) study in gymnasiums.

Albania currently has nine state Vocational Training Centers located in major cities. It offers short-term training courses (1-6 months), of which language and computer courses are the most popular.

Epoka University

Epoka University or Universiteti Epoka (Epoka) is a private nonprofit higher education institution in Albania. Epoka began operations in 2007. The institution has an urban campus located in Tirana and is the number one university in Albania.

Admission and tuition fees

The selection committee selects applicants based on the exams passed and the applicant’s previous performance. At the same time, upon admission, a rather low competition, where no more than 2 applicants apply for one place. The academic year at the educational institution is divided into two semesters. The cost of university tuition is about 5,000 USD per year.

Despite the low tuition fees, students additionally have the opportunity to apply for a university scholarship. Not all applicants of this university have the opportunity to study full-time. In this regard, Epoka University offers distance learning programs. University composition

Epoka University belongs to a small university, teaching about 1000 students at a time. Both local citizens and foreigners can apply for admission to an educational institution. The institution has approximately 99 teachers. When studying at Epoka, students have the opportunity to take part in student exchange programs. University of Tirana

The University of Tirana or Universiteti i Tiranรซs (UT) is a public higher education institution in Albania. UT began its active activity in 1957. The university campus is of urban type and is located in the region of Tirana. The University of Tirana is one of the leading educational institutions in Albania, included in the top 5 best universities in the national ranking.

Admission and tuition fees

Enrollment in an educational institution is based on the results of passed exams. The admission process has quite low competition, where no more than 3 applicants apply for one place. Studying at this institution will cost less than 2,500 USD per year for undergraduate programs. University composition

The University of Tirana can be considered a large educational institution, with over 29 thousand students. Both citizens of the country and foreign citizens can apply for admission to the university. The teaching staff of the institution includes more than 1,500 specialists.
